2020: The Karaoke Show Must Go On!

By now it should be apparent that there cannot be an AALL annual meeting without a chance to hang out with singers at Karaoke with Ken! This year is no exception, and since the meeting/conference will be a virtual one, so will be Karaoke with Ken. After all, in-person singing by lots of people indoors is a nearly surefire way to spread COVID-19. So instead, grab or sit down at your favorite device and join us for an evening of fun on Zoom, with the songs playing on Watch2gether.com.

I’m pleased to tell you that Tom Boone and Jason Sowards will be providing technical and hosting assistance to help things go as smoothly as possible. As you might guess, making things go relatively smoothly will require advance planning, not just on our parts but on yours too! So, we’re asking you to follow through on these steps:

  1. Join the 2020 AALL Karaoke with Ken Facebook group. This is the official communication channel for the event. It’s where we will post the links to submit your playlist selections and to connect with out Zoom session.
  2. Mark your calendar: We kick off at 8 PM EDT on Saturday, July 11th. It’s our tradition to party on the opening weekend of the annual meeting.
  3. Find your songs by searching YouTube for “karaoke” and your song title. There are thousands available, so you have a good chance of finding your picks.
  4. Note the YouTube URL for your songs. Then, go to Watch2gether and create a room.
  1. For each of your selections, plug in the URL to your room and find out whether the song will play. Many songs have usage restrictions that prevent them from playing on Watch2gether.
  2. Toss any songs with that problem, so you won’t be unpleasantly surprised on Karaoke Night!
  3. We’re asking that you limit your playlist to three songs.

At the Facebook Group we will post some tips to make it more likely your fellow party-goers will hear you sing your heart out. Are you excited yet? So go ahead and join the Facebook group and start building your playlist. We hope to see you “there!”
